Catherine Fagiolo
07:47:57
Is there a handout with all this great information?
Mary McMurtery (she/her)
07:57:21
Is it difficult for TMD to resolve, because one’s built up unconscious habits over time?
Linda Rose Linnebach
08:02:04
I’m curious…what is the ideal tongue position while resting?
Linda Rose Linnebach
08:06:55
It seems that singing with TMD would cause a cascade of compensatory “events” in all the structures and muscles in the body…I can’t imagine the “whack-a-mole” distress?!
Rachel Velarde (she/her)
08:12:33
I have no disc in my left TMJ, and have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both TMJs. Spring 2019, I developed MTD as a result of compensatory behaviors. I have resolved the MTD, decreased my tension headaches, and increased my TMJ mobility, primarily through Feldenkrais-based practices for the past year and a half. I'd love to see any research that backed up my personal experience.
Kimberly James
08:13:23
Wow, Rachel! Thanks for sharing that.
Kimberly James
08:14:52
I suck at Wall Angels.
Laurel Styner
08:16:22
I've heard that botox injections can be helpful for those with clenching-related TMD. I'm wondering if there are any potential issues singers might need to take into account if considering botox as a solution.
Rachel Velarde (she/her)
08:17:32
Botox is a paralytic. Anything effecting muscle use ability is scary to me. Also, insurance rarely pays for it and it's about $600/injection, or so...
Erin McOmber
08:19:48
I do
Kimberly James
08:23:06
Yep, Kathy!
Catherine Fagiolo
08:24:10
My dentist recommends night guards for many of his patients.
Victoria Rapanan
08:25:24
I’ve had both night guards that were fitted by my dentist and another that I bought from CVS. I like the soft one from CVS better!
Victoria Rapanan
08:26:57
this is why I prefer the soft night guard
Linda Rose Linnebach
08:27:27
Does anyone have any experience with acupuncture for relieving issues of TMD?
Mary McMurtery (she/her)
08:27:51
Along with previous presentations from today, I think mindfulness and the psychological/emotional connections are integral to addressing it, too.
Kathy
08:27:55
Good to hear there are soft ones at CVS.
Rachel Velarde (she/her)
08:28:04
Yes, Mary!!
Mary McMurtery (she/her)
08:28:22
Like encouraging students to give themselves permission to fail, and not fearing “failure” (speaking to myself!)
Rachel Velarde (she/her)
08:28:22
Also, I've found anything that helps my spine to remain flexible helps my TMD to lessen.
Kimberly James
08:28:22
^ not not TMD but symphysis pubis disorder in pregnancy.
Kimberly James
08:29:50
How interesting, Erin!
Linda Rose Linnebach
08:30:22
Yes, Erin! That cranial Orthotic guy sounds like he made a huge difference…what a great insight!!!
Rachel Velarde (she/her)
08:30:27
I've found that in Feldenkrais, as well.
Mary McMurtery (she/her)
08:30:29
Erin, is that like cranio-sacral therapy, or different?
Kimberly James
08:30:43
Yeah, sounds like osteopathy
Linda Rose Linnebach
08:31:29
Erin….can you restate the specialty, please?
Mary McMurtery (she/her)
08:31:57
Yeah, sometimes you have to go off the beaten path
Kimberly James
